Biography
He earned his master’s and PhD degrees from the Department of Political Science and Public Administration at Middle East Technical University. During 2006-2007, he was a visiting researcher at the Department of Political Science at the New School for Social Research, supported by a Fulbright Scholarship. His academic career includes positions at Middle East Technical University, Akdeniz University, Kadir Has University, and Istanbul Bilgi University. He is interested in everything under and above the sun, but his primary focus lies in communication theories, political communication, the sociology of communication, media consumption, political and social theory, cultural studies, and the political and cultural life in Turkey. He is in the process of completing his book titled “A Century of Votes,” which explores the hundred-year evolution of election campaigns in Turkey. Additionally, he has commenced work on his next book, “An Intellectual History of the Idea of Communication: Between Philosophy and Sociology.” Currently, he is a researcher on two separate TÜBİTAK 1001 projects: “Rethinking Active Citizenship in the 100th Anniversary of the Republic” and “Forms of Nationalism in Izmir: Perceptions, Attitudes, and Debates.”
